Introduction In this investigation I am investigating if varying the amount of sugar solution or distilled water determines the concentration of cell sap. I will do this by using different concentrations of sugar solution and distilled water. If the medium is hypotonic — a dilute solution, with a higher water concentration than the cell — the cell will gain water through osmosis. However if the medium is isotonic —a solution with exactly the same water concentration as the cell — there will be no net movement of water across the cell membrane. If the medium is hypertonic — a concentrated solution, with a lower water concentration than the cell — the cell will lose water by osmosis. Investigation variables To have a controlled reliable investigation I will control the following variables: To try my best to do the experiments at the same room temperature. I will prepare the carrots in the same way because any minor changes can ruin the experiment. The mass of the carrots is a dependent variable and this terminology means that the piece of carrot will be measured constantly throughout the experiment. I will measure in grams, in addition the piece of carrot will be measured before and after it is put into the solution, this will allow us to see if any osmosis has taken place. Fourthly the volume of the solution which the carrot pieces are put in must be same for all of them for example all of them should be covered in what is supposed to be covered in. Also I am going to use the same set of scales to measure the carrot pieces in the solution. This is because measurements may vary between the scales. I did this in a lab so everything was under control to make my results very reliable. My hypothesis I predict that the less sugar solution we use the higher the concentration of the cell sap would be. Plan First I will take some xylem cells from inside of the carrot and some phloem from the outside of the carrot I will take 15 samples of each type of cell from each carrot I will put 3 samples in each solution I would then leave it for 1 hour Then I would reweigh its mass Then plot these results onto a graph And then where the line crosses 0 is the concentration of the cytoplasm Conclusion As I conclude I can say that in my investigation I found out that the more sugar solution you cover in the carrot piece the higher the concentration of cell sap would be and there would be more osmosis activity. However what does mystify me is what you can see above, the two outliers because they don not surprisingly fit with the others but I am sure that if we do this investigation again there would be two outliers or less.

She decides to leave her responsibilities and pursue a life of freedom, which she at first thinks is exactly what she wants. She abandons her life as a housewife and mother to follow a path that leads to her own destruction.By freeing herself from what she thought was an unhappy life, Edna finds herself more dejected, which leads her to her death. She thinks the only way to be truly free from the oppressiveness of society would be to die, which would release her of all her worries. The point Chopin was trying to convey in The Awakening is that society is oppressive and forces women to stay in their pla ce otherwise their reputation would be in Jeopardy. The idea falls apart in that no one ever tries to stop Edna from her process of â€Å"awakening. Not one person forces her to do her housework or take care of her children. It Is merely suggested that she does so. Even though Edna receives warnings and scolding from her husband to be a better mother and to take better care of the family, she ignores them, and L ©once thinks there is something mentally wrong with her (86). When Dean's father comes to visit her, he scolds L ©once for being too lenient and not asserting his authority instead of realizing that Edna was asserting her own independence (107). The idea of an oppressive society disintegrates through this example.Edna believes that society Is constricting her, when there Isn't anyone who Is limiting her actions. L ©once, on finding out that Edna has moved into a smaller house, only disapproves because he fears his reputation would be injured because he believes others would think he is having financial difficulties (137). This shows that L ©once isn't particularly worried about Dean's reputation, only what she could be doing to his reputation. Therefore, Edna isn't necessarily being burdened by the norms of society; she is already partially free to express herself.Doctor Mandated, on speaking with L ©once concerning Dean's â€Å"condition†, asks If Edna has been associating with â€Å"pseudo-Intellectual women†, which L ©once reports that she hasn't (99). Mademoiselle Raise could be considered an intellectual woman, being that she often gives Edna advice, whom is also Dean's confidant. Mademoiselle Raise also warns Edna by telling her â€Å"The bird that would soar above the level plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings. It is a sad spectacle to see the weaklings bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth† (122).So, even the woman whom Edna turns to for guidance tells her she must be strong to break t hrough societies clutches, or she will fall, which foreshadows Dean's death. Chopping concept is void because Edna continues to challenge authority. Throughout the story, Dean's friends and relatives worry for her reputation, though she seems to not care about it. The society that Chopin displays deeply considers the role of women and how it forces women to conform, otherwise jeopardizing their reputation.This Idea crumbles when Edna throws a house party her father's health, praising him for â€Å"the daughter whom he invented† (129). Dean's reputation has obviously not been affected by her actions because of the many people who showed up to her party. They didn't seem to Judge her for inviting Robin either. When Ad ©eel visits Edna, she tells her that she worries for the impulsive and reckless nature of her actions, but the two seem to still be close friends despite her actions (141). Her reputation is not affected by her so-called â€Å"impulsive and reckless nature†.Also, earlier in her process of â€Å"awakening†, L ©once scolds Edna for being out on a Tuesday, which is Dean's reception day, and not leaving an excuse for her absence (77). Edna finds that while she was out, there had been many callers, proving that her reputation is not affected. L ©once is only worried about his own reputation throughout the novel. Ad ©eel tells Edna to â€Å"think of the children† after she gives birth to a child, warning Edna that her endeavors could also hurt the reputations of her children (164).It seems that Dean's reputation is not significant in the views of others, therefore diminishing Chopping notion that not conforming to society standards can ruin a woman's reputation. Although, Chopin intended the work to say that Edna is constricted by society standards and feels that she can free herself by not conforming, Edna feels that society is oppressive and that she can't do things on her own without becoming independent and freeing herself of the responsibilities set for her.In actuality, the work said that society isn't as oppressive as Edna makes it seem, through her constant dismissal of its nature. Throughout the story, not one person tries to stop Edna in pursuing her ideas of freedom and independence. Though some people warn her of the consequences of her actions, they do not demand her to stop. This shows that society is not totally oppressive, even though Edna may believe so.

Promoting Healthy Eating Habits in Second Graders Essay This paper is geared toward promoting education of healthy eating habits of second grade students. According to Blais and Hayes, â€Å"Healthy People 2010 define Health Promotion as individual and community activities to promote healthful lifestyles. These healthful lifestyles include the improvement of nutrition in America† (p.120). The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP), an organization of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has provided the necessary tools to help guide and promote healthy eating habits through conducting research and evidence based analysis in nutrition. USDA Food Guidance System known as MyPlate, MyPyramid, or the Food Guide Pyramid are used to educate the public and offer information on the recommended nutritional guides on weight management, caloric intake, physical activity, and health tips for specific ages and health conditions. The Dietary Guidelines of Americans 2010 have set guidelines used to promote healthy eating to the American people of all cultures, traditions and socioeconomic background. These guidelines encourage the consumption of nutritional foods, which include fresh vegetable and fruit, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products, a variety of protein rich foods, which include lean meats, seafood, nuts and legumes (p.46). The emphasis of these principles will be used towards the promotion of health through the development, implementation and evaluation of a teaching plan on healthy eating habits to second graders, between the ages of 7-9 in a their classroom setting using the MyPlate educational teaching tools. Assessment of Learning Needs The second grade learning group consisted of fourteen children ages 7-9. An interactive class activity was presented using different items which  consisted of each food group using the MyPlate teaching concept. The children were asked to identify the food item they preferred unhealthy versus the healthy choice. The children’s knowledge on making healthy food choices was assessed at this time. It was assessed that 72% of the children preferred the food item that was unhealthy, while 28% made healthier selections. Although some of the children made healthy choices the majority of the group made unhealthy food selections. Prior to presenting the teaching plan the teacher reviewed the material to assure it would be understood by the second graders. Their developmental level was confirmed to be within the second grader learning ability in communication and understanding. None of the children required special learning needs. Two of the children wore corrective lenses, which did not inhibit their ability to participate in the activity. Cultural consideration was assessed by asking the children their race and the different kinds of food that is cooked at home. Two children were multicultural of Hispanic origin and specific food items commonly eaten at home were placed into its specific food group. The second graders first language was English. None of the children expressed specific spiritual practices as pertaining to eating habits or customs. The second graders preferred an interactive learning style which included: demonstration, answering and asking questions, and coloring activity. The second graders were enthusiastic and expressed eagerness to learn and share the information with their parents. The overall health status of the second graders was good. There were a few that expressed having allergies or respiratory problems. Learner Objectives The learning objectives for the promotion of healthy eating plan are as follows: A. Affective Domain: The students are willing to actively participate by listening and responding to the instructor’s presentation on healthy eating habits and engage in group activity. B. Cognitive Domain: Each student will be able to choose three healthy food items specific for each of the five food groups and describe three ways healthy eating nourishes the body and benefits of staying physically active. C. Psychomotor Domain: The students will select and identify the food item that is more beneficial for their health with given activity. Teaching Plan The teaching plan to be implemented includes the following presentation, which incorporates the current lunch menu offered to the students in school: A. MyPlate five food group and drink option was presented and the students are asked to choose which food item is eaten daily unhealthy versus healthy items included: 1. Fruit group: Selection of fresh fruit (banana, apple, orange strawberries, etc.) or a fruit cup 2. Grain group: Selection of French fries, potato chips, baked potato or wheat or white bread sandwich 3. Vegetable group: Selection of fresh carrots, salad, celery or canned carrots, corn 4. Protein group: Selection of fried chicken nuggets or baked chicken nuggets, burger or subway sandwich 5. Dairy group: Selection of whole milk or low fat milk, cheese or yogurt 6. Drinks: Water, Capri Sun or Juice box Each individual student will be encouraged to participate and other specific items not listed will be placed in the classified food group in order to address all individual needs. B. MyPlate nutritional guidelines reviewed with the students and open questions answered. 1. The evaluation of learner objectives was measured by having the students re-evaluate their previous food item choice and compare it to the healthier food item. The scores were significantly higher were 92% the students identified and selected healthier food items listed. The students expressed understanding and enjoying the class, the activities used and having a parent teaching the class. Positive feedback was given by the teacher present and students. The students were comfortable in their classroom setting, which is the appropriate environment for learning. The health promotion event was successful and effective in educating second grade students on healthy eating habits. The students expressed eagerness to share the resource pamphlet with their parents. The information shared would have been more effective and beneficial if the second graders parents were present, but studies show that second graders are influential in assisting parents make healthy eating choices for them with the information they learn. Diversity in Tagg Island Essay Population diversity may be defined as the presence of varied cultural, religious, social and related backgrounds among people living in the same environment (Anleu, 2009). Usually, diversity generates a crisis during settlement for a compromise which is necessary for co-existence. As an indication of growth and probably a shift from the usual way of doing things, diversification brings with it both opportunities and challenges. The start of diversification within a community may be signaled by media interaction or the physical immigration into a natives’ land. To the natives that are less conservative, population diversification ushers in learning chances and an improvement on social interactions. However, to strict conservatives, the later implies a break to cultural settings and distort of norms in a society. As a matter of necessity, population diversification will affect every nation or community in the near future. It is therefore important to be prepared and check the challenges that accompany the aforementioned diversification. This paper seeks to address the impact of change in social, economic and legal demographic characteristics of Tagg Island. The Island of Tagg has all through missed the benefits that accrue to population diversification such as economic growth and opening up of the borders to the world. However, the Island is lucky to have survived challenges of diversification for such a long time. Many other countries in the world experienced diversification at least two centuries ago due to colonization (Roy Sideras, 2006). To that effect, a country such as USA has established legal frameworks to address the issue. As it is expected, the USA legal framework on diversification is not without flaws that can be identified as mistakes and whose effects have affected the natives negatively. The council of Tagg Island needs to be very careful in laying down the appropriate legal infrastructure of dealing with diversification that seems inevitable with the start of oil drilling by foreigners in the island. It would be important for Tagg council to have a close look at the USA’s legal framework in regard to diversification. Diagnosis of the flaws or mistakes made by USA in the later issue will be worth noting so that mistakes can be avoided. Similarly, the strengths need be identified so that they can be the basis of establish a strong foundation. Findings on USA legal system on population diversification Unlike many other nations in the world, USA accepted diversity in its population through immigration as early as during the seventeenth century. Indeed, close to two hundred thousand European immigrants moved to America as indentured servants. Immigration trends continued in the nineteenth century characterized by influx of immigrants from Eastern and Southern Europe and later by Asia and Latin America after 1965. Each of the immigrant groups carried with them their cultures, religion, race and most of all their norms and beliefs. Moreover, population diversity intensified the need for established of a legal framework and coexistence structures so that the new USA community would be cohesive. In 1952, long after US independence, an Act on Immigration and Nationality was endorsed and it helped create naturalization policies that were meant to embrace and check population diversity in the country (Denton Tolnay, 2002). Today, USA federal government has adopted a diversity framework through diversity visa lottery that grants legal entry to US for countries with low rates of US immigration. The legal immigrants are then nationalized or allowed to be in the country for a limited duration accordingly. In fact, the Diversification Act allows half a million immigrants to acquire legal permanent residence in US annually. There are also legal provisions in the Act that regulate the immigration quotas for each country upto a maximum of three thousand eight hundred and fifty individuals from a similar country. Moreover, there are other legal avenues of immigration to US including students and seasonal laborers. The legal figure per annum would therefore total to a million immigrants. Denton Tolnay 2002 argues that among the qualifications of the immigrants is the willingness to adhere to the governance structures and principles as set by the US government. The aliens therefore respect the rule of law, the constitution and the judicial system as established with time. In order to control, illegal immigration, USA closely monitors its borders in addition to the established system of access to humanitarian facilities. In fact, all adults in USA are legally recognized in medical, financial and any other public facilities that require identification and documentation. However, according to Pew Hispanic Center there have always been illegal immigrants who totaled to as high as twelve million individuals by year 2006 (Roy Sideras, 2006). The intention of the immigration legal framework was to practice the democratic right of every individual to earn from his labour without any discrimination based on origin or background. The diversification laws are in constant reviews as need be as witnessed by legislations and amendments mitigated by the 9/11 bombing of the twin towers in USA. By allowing diversification of the demographic characteristics in a country the conventional bill of rights as outlined by UN convention are respected. Flaws made by USA in legislation of diversification legal frameworks Like any other country or region, there is need for establishment of a balance between resources available and the population depending on such resources. When such balance is unchecked, resources will either be underutilized or insufficient. The former poses little or no challenged while the latter is detrimental to social economic life of the citizens. US Diversification Act seems flawed in the high number of legal immigrants that it grants. As aforementioned, immigration is not limited to Diversity Visa lottery, any other legal avenues but also extends to illegal immigration. The effects of extensive diversification have been the current high crime rates, high unemployment levels and over utilization of public facilities such as schools and hospitals. Even though there is need to enhance survival for humanity, it does not nullify the need to sufficiently take care of a country’s citizens (Roy Sideras, 2006). Secondly, in making the legislation, the laws are lacking in clearly dealing with the illegal immigrants that for example lead undocumented, an issue that is increasingly hard to deal with. In other words, there is need for comprehensive law that would not assume that illegal immigration is completely eliminated via deportation and detaining of culprits. According to Anleu 2009, effects of any law that is incomplete in addressing in totality the contextual issue are detrimental and worse than its absence until it is made whole. Furthermore, Diversity visa lottery provided in the Diversification Act lacks clear basis of establishing economic independence of immigrants to the US. For example, the exercise fails in establishing the will and economic strength of the immigrant’s host family before the immigrant can secure employment. In fact, to enhance diversification free from dependence, Diversity visa lottery should provide employment avenues for the immigrants. This is however impossible since the government has not succeeded in addressing unemployment among its native citizens. In addition, the laws do not clearly ensure that the legal immigrants’ rights are observed since there still are traces of racial discrimination in the country. Recommendations Having established the flaws that are susceptible to occur in providing a legal frame work for embracing diversity, the Tagg council should practise careful deliberations on the following issues. First, the council needs to establish the intensity of oil reserves in Tagg Island. The later should then be compared to the native population needs and particularly, the forecasted needs in the future. Once the resource versus native needs is established, the council should appropriately decide the number of aliens that it can legally allow. The ideal scenario would be that the proceeds of the oil drilling should enough for the natives and the legal immigrants. Second, there is going to be a change in religion and beliefs of the legal citizens. Furthermore, there is a possibility that the natives who are otherwise homogeneous in religion will adopt foreign religious beliefs. In matter of religion, Tagg council need to move in speed and establish if it would separate Island governance from the religion or it would declare homogeneity in religion as it has previously been. Probably, heterogeneous in religion would be preferable if the council considers oil drilling as key to its economy. However, the council must establish a common observance of the religious groups that may come up so that human rights are not violated. Third, the council must embrace the court system for subjecting to trial those suspected of breaking the law as set. This will particularly be necessary if the incoming aliens originate from countries with formal courts. Establishment of court systems do not in any way imply breaking of the law and order as set but to safeguard those who may be affected in case the very law and order are distorted. Although the natives are used to the decisions of the council being final, it do not imply that they are satisfied with such decisions and would probably like to challenge such verdicts in a structured formal way. The court systems, in addition to observing the constitution, ensure that rights of all legal citizens are uniformly respected and upheld. Furthermore, the courts established must be run by individuals with integrity and technical knowhow so that the law that protects or convicts all persons within Tagg Island is administered with integrity (Anleu, 2009). Fourth, Tagg council must be ready to embrace the impacts of laws such as detention of illegal immigrants and punishment of law breakers by citizens. The impacts will vary from public resistance and demonstrations to establishment of detainee camps and correction institutions for the law breakers (Roy Sideras, 2006). The council will therefore need to establish related facilities to cater for the impacts. Philosophically, the ideologies that support egocentric attitude among citizens will be forfeited in Tagg. Native citizens must also be taught to embrace diversity of views in terms of social norms, religion and other aspects if the island is to remain peaceful. Co-existence among differing social characteristics among the island inhabitants must be seen as a virtue that need to be legally supported so that the benefits that would result from oil drilling do not distort harmony that has been key among the Tagg community. Conclusion Population diversification has long been adopted by countries that have embraced the concept of globalisation. Although numerous challenges have been experienced as a result of the diversification, benefits achieved cannot be ignored. Countries have opened up their boundaries for trade and technological development. Furthermore, social ties are have been established and strengthened as a result of diversification. As people of different backgrounds mingle, there is a possibility of learning from each other, appreciating the differences and hence enhancing peace. Tagg Island has to keep up to the trends taken by other societies in embracing population diversification and establishing the associated structures. Furthermore, the island is not self sufficient in itself since it seemingly has not noticed of the oil resources that it possesses and which could improve the lives of its citizens (Roy Sideras, 2006). Since the council of Tagg Island may be lacking in legal expertise, this report strongly recommends hiring of legal experts to assist in drafting diversification laws. In addition, the council may consider involving the aliens intending to drill oil so as to tailor their aspects of relationships accordingly. Based on the previous studies, this thesis attempts to carve out a way of stable operation and sustainable development for theme restaurants from the perspectives of marketing strategic, customer value and corporate life cycle through comparison, illustration and analysis. Compared with others, homogeneity is very serious in dining business. Theme restaurant makes customer active participator instead of passive recipient comes with the tide of fashion. Theme restaurant can be simply defined as a dining place marked with one (usually) or more themes based on which all the structure, decoration, design, product, service etc. are created to produce a particular cultural atmosphere that can be recognized and felt by customers. There are three main idea from researchers of theme restaurants in China. First, the main ideal, this view consider theme as a carrier of operation which is mainly used to attract customers. However the food is still the main concern in the restaurant. Second, the core ideal, the function of theme is created by the need and want of the consumers. They affirm the primary status of theme based on which all the other elements in restaurant will be defined, such as dish, menu, space design, decoration, color, music, service, marketing strategy and so on. Third is the experience that the customers will feel while dining in the restaurant which the ambiance is different from other restaurant. What they can obtain is not only delicious food and considerate service, but also a taste of exclusiveness and privilege, a perception of emotional and psychology identification. In 1970, Alvin Toffler came up with experience economy in his book Future Shock. From his view, after product economy and service economy, human being will enter an Experience Economy Era. Then Pine, J, B. and Gilmore, J, H confirmed this prediction and further developed Alvin’s idea by publishing their work Experience Economy in 1999. They described an experience occurs when a company intentionally uses services as the stage, and goods as props, to engage individual customers in a way that creates a memorable event. Be careful about the appearance when note taking (that is, if you jump to take a note, it may appear as if youre surprised or very pleased about an answer, which may influence answers to future questions).
